The complete guide to
measuring your window blinds
A perfect blind starts with a perfect measurement. Follow our step-by-step guides for Recess Fit, Exact Fit and Perfect Fit blinds — no guesswork, no returns, no fuss.
Four measuring essentials
Measure in millimetres
Always measure in millimetres (mm) for the perfect fit.
Use a metal tape
A metal tape measure provides the most accurate results.
Measure every window
Even windows that look identical can vary by several millimetres.
Don't deduct
Enter the exact measurements you take. We'll make any necessary allowances.
Wooden Venetian Blinds
Choose between an inside-the-recess fit for a clean, built-in look, or an outside-the-recess fit for maximum coverage and light control.
Recess Fit
Your blind sits neatly inside the window recess.
Measure the Width
Measure the inside width of the recess in three places.
- 1 Top
- 2 Middle
- 3 Bottom
Use the smallest measurement.
Measure the Drop
Measure the height in three places.
- 1 Left
- 2 Centre
- 3 Right
Use the smallest measurement.
Exact Fit
Your blind hangs outside the window recess.
Measure the Width
Measure the width you'd like your blind to cover.
- 1 +50mm each side (recommended)
Add ~50mm each side for better light control.
Measure the Drop
Measure from where you'd like the blind to begin to where you'd like it to finish.
- 1 +70mm above the window
- 2 + as required below the sill
Allow enough drop below the sill for the look you want.
Ensure handles won't interfere with the blind.
Check your recess is deep enough for your chosen slat size.
Look out for tiles, picture rails and other obstacles.
Recess Depth
| Slat Size | Minimum Recommended Depth |
|---|---|
| 35mm | 50mm |
| 50mm | 65mm |
| 63mm | 80mm |
If your recess isn't deep enough, you can still choose an Exact Fit.
Bowed or Curved Windows
Some windows and recesses are not perfectly straight and may have a bow or curve. To ensure your blind fits correctly:
- Measure the width in at least three places and use the smallest.
- Measure the drop in three places and use the smallest.
- Never round measurements up or down.

- 1 Left
- 2 Centre
