Made to Measure. Made Simple.

The complete guide to
measuring your window blinds

A perfect blind starts with a perfect measurement. Follow our step-by-step guides for Recess Fit, Exact Fit and Perfect Fit blinds — no guesswork, no returns, no fuss.

Before You Begin

Four measuring essentials

Measure in millimetres

Always measure in millimetres (mm) for the perfect fit.

Use a metal tape

A metal tape measure provides the most accurate results.

Measure every window

Even windows that look identical can vary by several millimetres.

Don't deduct

Enter the exact measurements you take. We'll make any necessary allowances.

Measuring Guide

Wooden Venetian Blinds

Choose between an inside-the-recess fit for a clean, built-in look, or an outside-the-recess fit for maximum coverage and light control.

Recess Fit

Your blind sits neatly inside the window recess.

Measure the Width

Measure the inside width of the recess in three places.

1 2 3
  • 1 Top
  • 2 Middle
  • 3 Bottom

Use the smallest measurement.

Measure the Drop

Measure the height in three places.

1 2 3
  • 1 Left
  • 2 Centre
  • 3 Right

Use the smallest measurement.

Top Tip · Check your window handles don't stick out too far. If they do, you may prefer an Exact Fit blind.

Exact Fit

Your blind hangs outside the window recess.

Measure the Width

Measure the width you'd like your blind to cover.

1
  • 1 +50mm each side (recommended)

Add ~50mm each side for better light control.

Measure the Drop

Measure from where you'd like the blind to begin to where you'd like it to finish.

1 2
  • 1 +70mm above the window
  • 2 + as required below the sill

Allow enough drop below the sill for the look you want.

Ensure handles won't interfere with the blind.

Check your recess is deep enough for your chosen slat size.

Look out for tiles, picture rails and other obstacles.

Recommended

Recess Depth

Slat Size Minimum Recommended Depth
35mm 50mm
50mm 65mm
63mm 80mm

If your recess isn't deep enough, you can still choose an Exact Fit.

Extra Care

Bowed or Curved Windows

Some windows and recesses are not perfectly straight and may have a bow or curve. To ensure your blind fits correctly:

  • Measure the width in at least three places and use the smallest.
  • Measure the drop in three places and use the smallest.
  • Never round measurements up or down.

How to Measure

It's important to provide us with the exact measurements of the visible glass only.

Measure the Width

Measure the visible glass width in three places (top, middle, bottom).

1 2 3
  • 1 Top
  • 2 Middle
  • 3 Bottom

Enter the smallest of the three.

Measure the Height

Measure the visible glass height in three places (left, centre, right).

1 2 3
  • 1 Left
  • 2 Centre
  • 3 Right

Enter the smallest of the three.

Check the Depth

Check the depth of the glass and rubber beading to ensure a Perfect Fit.

15mm
minimum

A minimum depth of 15mm is required.

Top Tip · Measure in millimetres (mm) and use a metal tape measure for the most accurate result.
Top Tip · Do not include rubber seals, window beading or the window frame in your glass-only measurements.

Handy Tips

Obstructions

Make sure there are no obstructions (vents, handles or locks) that will interfere with the blind.

Vents

If your window has trickle vents, ensure there is enough clearance for the blind.
